Google is starting to slowly rollout Gmail 2.0. Among the updates is an improved contact manager as well as a rewritten back-end that promises to provider a faster email browsing experience. A Google spokesperson said about 1 percent of Gmail users have had this option enabled and they intend to provide more access on an on-going basis.
