The iPhone Dev Team has released a Free unlock for the iPhone using either v1.1.1 or v1.0.2 firmware. This unlock is still very new and does come with significant risk, but so does everything else in life. The unlock DOES NOT fix the corrupted baseband and works only for iPhones that were never bricked before and will not stop your iPhone from becoming brick if you choose to update the firmware after you unlock it.

The Team is also working on a “revirginizing” app that will restore your iPhone to the default unbricked/unlocked state for future unlocking, no word on when this will be released.
